Google shutting down Gtalk on February 16

Within two weeks from now, you’ll have to switch from Google’s Gtalk messenger platform to its all new Chat facility “Hangout”. Millions of users have been using the Google talk for a long time and they’ve become so comfortable with it that no one has ever thought of moving away from Google Talk. So, Google has decided to force users by shutting down Gtalk forever.

Hangout is the future for Google and hence taking down Gtalk is the most logical thing that Google can do. Signs of Gtalk going down was confirmed when Google decided to cut support (security and version) for the desktop application bringing its end closer to the reality. As highlighted by Google the ‘IM service will be wholly replaced by the Hangouts app soon, which can be used only via its Chrome web browser.

Gtalk will breathe its last on February 16 and will leave us! Like all good things, Gtalk will also become history (just like how Orkut and few social website have been). . WhatsApp has now moved to PCs as well and its going more viral around the world ,which has made Gtalk all the more redundant (not many would agree to that), so with Hangout, Google wants to make instant messaging; interactive and visual appealing experience.

Whatsapp is now available for Desktop.

WhatsApp is now coming to the desktop. A long-desired feature for fans, WhatsApp is now available on the browser — but not any browser. For now, Chrome is the only browser supported, and you’ll need the app to log-in. With a scan of the QR code, you can start chatting on the desktop, and leave your phone on the desk next to you. Unless you’re on iOS — the desktop doesn’t support that, either.

To get started chatting via WhatsApp on the desktop, head into your app on Android, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry. You’ll see a “WhatsApp Web” screen, which is where you scan the QR code on WhatsApp’s web portal.

The scan links the browser experience with your app. WhatsApp also says your phone needs to stay connected to the Internet for it to work, which means turning your phone off or turning your Airplane Mode on could disable your browser session.

On your desktop visit " https://web.whatsapp.com/ " and scan the code with your device. And you are ready to go.

Unfortunately, this is still early days for WhatsApp on the desktop. Chrome seems to be the only browser supported.

WhatsApp bans WhatsApp PLUS users

WhatsApp has started giving out 24 hour bans to those using a third party Android app to send and receive messages through its service.

WhatsApp Plus - also known as WhatsApp+ - allows you to customize the app with different colours and themes, and also offers the option to block contacts from seeing when you were last online while still allowing you to see when others were.

You have to uninstall the official WhatsApp in order to use the Plus service, and WhatsApp's not happy about it.

Now, when opening the app, the offending users are being greeted with a 24-hour countdown clock and the message: "You're temporarily banned from WhatsApp because you may have violated our terms of service."

Google+ user Dr. Mounib Al Rifai posted this message in the Whatsapp+ Community Group to its 700k members:

“Guys if you are getting this error don’t panic we are working hard to find a fix for the issue as soon as possible in the mean time you can use the normal whatsapp till a fix is found..
Very sorry for this issue as whatsapp is pushing us into a corner..
Update 1: for now reinstalling the normal whatsapp won’t get you unbanned till you finish the 24 hour ban..
Update 2 : if you didn’t get banned and are using whatsapp+ please uninstall it now and go back to normal whatsapp before you get banned till we find a fix”
Third Party apps like Whatsapp+ can bring unwanted negative attention to the company in the event of any security vulnerabilities in their source code. Whatsapp+ is also reportedly using Whatsapp’s servers which also helps Whatsapp to see exactly who is using the third party add-on. At this time there’s no indication what caused this sudden enforcement of Whatsapp’s user policy, but being apart of a much larger company now, its likely that more stringent measures must be put in place to protect Whatsapp legally.

Certified Ethical Hacking Training - CEH Overview

Hacking involves creativity and thinking 'outside-of-the-box', that is why vulnerability testing and security audits will not ensure the security proofing of an organization. To ensure that organisations have adequately protected their information assets, they must adopt the approach of 'defence in depth'. In other words, they must penetrate their networks and assess the security posture for vulnerabilities and exposure.

The goal of the Ethical Hacking & Countermeasures Course is to teach a delegate to help his organization to take pre-emptive measures against malicious attacks by attacking the system himself; all the while staying within legal limits. Delegates should be prepared for action paced course and the sheer size of the course content, however do not be intimidated as we will release e-learning prior to the delegate attending the course and also the instructor will prepare them thoroughly for the Certification Examination, the maunuals can then be taken home and to work and can be used as excellent reference volumes.

EC-Council Certified Ethical Hacker Certification:  EC-Council has successfully certified more than a thousand information security professionals. CEH examination is becoming more demanding and more effective in measuring the true skills of a Penetration tester. Students are now required to be able to interpret identify exploits, log files, identify attack signatures, recommend countermeasures, have a firm grasp of the main tools and know standard procedures involved in penetration testing. The student is tested on 150 questions picked randomly from a pool of questions contributed by the security community. Our Pass rate to date is 98%

Intel's HDMI Stick turns TV into a Windows Desktop.

Intel's $150 HDMI Stick Turns Any TV Into a Windows Desktop

This is the Intel Compute Stick, a humble HDMI dongle that gives a full desktop computer experience. It's not a particularly powerful one — you get a quad-core 1.33GHz Intel Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of solid state storage—but it does have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and both a full-size USB port and a microSD card slot for expandability.

The Compute Stick uses Intel's Bay Trail Atom Z3735F quad-core processor and includes Bluetooth 4.0, 2.4Ghz 802.11n wireless and a single USB port. It also includes a microSD expansion slot for more storage.

In terms of connectivity the Intel Compute Stick has a male HDMI port on one end and a microUSB for power. Intel is working on an improved verison that will draw its power from the HDMI port itself, saving you a cable.

The pocketable computer will be available this March. Future versions will update the chipset from Bay Trail to the new Cherry Trail and maybe even Core M.

A Linux version of the Compute Stick is also available for $89. It comes with 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM.

Top 10 Black Hat Hackers

To accompany the technological advancements of the computer world and the constant changing definition of a hacker, we thought it was time to look back at ten of the most notorious black hat hackers and the legendary hacks that earned them such a title. First, it should be known that a black hat hacker is computing slang for a person who engages in illegal or malicious hacking.

A white hat hacker is a computer hacker who intends to improve internet security. It is note-worthy that many white hat hackers, such as Steve Jobs of apple, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, and even many hackers listed below, were once black hat hackers.

10. Kevin Poulsen(a.k.a. Dark Dante)

The notorious ’80s black hat hacker, Kevin Poulsen, gained recognition for his hacking of the telephone lines for LA radio station KIIS-FM, securing himself a place as the 102nd caller and winning a brand new Porsche 944, among other prizes. Law enforcement dubbed Poulsen the “Hannibal Lecter of computer crime.” Poulsen went underground as a fugitive when the FBI began its search for him, but in 1991, he was finally captured.

He pleaded guilty to seven counts of mail, wire and computer fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, and for obtaining information on covert businesses run by the FBI. Kevin Poulsen was sentenced to 51 months in prison (4 years and 3 months), which was the longest sentence ever given for hacking at the time. However, since serving time, Poulsen has worked as a journalist and is now a senior editor for Wired News. Poulsen’s most note-worthy article details his work on identifying 744 sex offenders with MySpace profiles.

9.Albert Gonzalez

Cyber-criminal Albert Gonzalez has been accused of masterminding the biggest ATM and credit card theft in history; from 2005 to 2007, he and his cybergroup had allegedly sold more than 170 million card and ATM numbers. Gonzalez’s team used SQL injection techniques to create malware backdoors on several corporate systems in order to launch packet-sniffing (specifically, ARP Spoofing) attacks, allowing him to steal computer data from internal corporate networks. When he was arrested, authorities seized $1.6 million in cash including $1.1 million found in plastic bags placed in a three-foot drum which had been buried in his parents’ backyard. In 2010, Gonzalez was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison.

8.Vladimir Levin

It’s almost like the opening of a James Bond movie: in 1994, while working from his laptop from his Russian apartment in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Levin transferred $10 million from the accounts of Citibank clients to his own accounts around the world.

However, Levin’s career as a hacker was only short lived, with a capture, imprisonment and recovery of all but $400,000 of the original $10 million. During Levin’s 1997 trial in the United States, he was said to have coordinated the first ever internet bank raid. The truth is Levin’s ability to transfer Citibank client funds to his own accounts was possible through stolen account numbers and PINs. Levin’s scam was a simple interception of clients’ calls while recording the punched in account numbers.

7.Robert Tappan Morris

On November 2, 1988, Robert Morris released a worm that took down one-tenth of the Internet, crippling 6,000 plus computer systems. It didn’t take long for the police to track him down. Due in part to the need for social acceptance that seems to be common amongst many young hackers, Morris made the fault of chatting about his worm for months before its release on the Internet. Morris claimed it was just a stunt, and added that he truly regretted causing $15 million worth of damage: the estimated amount of carnage his worm left behind.

Morris was one of the first to be tried and convicted under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act but only had community service and a fine as his penalty. The defense for such a light sentence was that Morris’ worm didn’t destroy the actual contents of affected computers. Morris now works in the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

6.Michael Calce(a.k.a. MafiaBoy)

In February of 2000, Michael Calce launched a series of widely known denial-of-service attacks against large commercial websites, including Yahoo!, Amazon.com, Dell, eBay, and CNN. He hacked Yahoo! when it was still the web’s leading search engine and caused it to shutdown for about an hour. Like many hackers, Calce exploited websites primarily for pride and establishing dominance for himself and his cybergroup, TNT. In 2001, the Montreal Youth Court sentenced Calce to eight months of open custody, one year of probation, restricted use of the Internet, and a minimal fine.

5.David Smith
Smith’s fame is due to being the author of the infamous e-mail virus, Melissa. Smith claims that the Melissa virus was never intended to cause harm, but its simple means of propagation (each infected computer sent out multiple infected emails) overloaded computer systems and servers around the world. Smith’s virus takes an unusual turn in that it was originally hidden in a file that contained passwords to 80 well-known pornography websites. The name Melissa was derived from a lap dancer Smith met while on a trip in Florida. Even though over 60,000 email viruses have been discovered, Smith is the only person to go to federal prison in the United States for sending one.

4.Adrian Lamo

Nicknamed “the homeless hacker,” Adrian Lamo used coffee shops, libraries and internet cafĆ©s as his locations for hacking. Apart from being the homeless hacker, Lamo is widely-known for breaking into a series of high-profile computer networks, which include The New York Times, Microsoft, Yahoo!, and MCI WorldCom. In 2002, he added his name to the The New York Times’ internal database of expert sources and utilized LexisNexis account to conduct research on high-profile subjects. The Times filed a complaint, and a warrant for Lamo’s arrest was issued, followed by a 15-month investigation by federal prosecutors in New York.

After several days in hiding, he finally surrendered to the US Marshals, and then to the FBI. Lamo was ordered to pay approximately $65,000 in damages and was sentenced to six months house arrest at his parents’ home, with an additional two years of probation. In June 2010, Lamo disclosed the name of Bradley Manning to U.S. Army authorities as the source of the July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike video leak to Wikileaks. Lamo is presently working as a threat analyst and donates his time and skills to a Sacramento-based nonprofit organization.

3.George Hotz

The name of the acclaimed jailbreak artist, George Hotz, will forever be associated with the April 2011 PlayStation breach. Being one of the first hackers ever to jailbreak the Sony PlayStation 3, Hotz found himself in the midst of a very relentless, public and messy court battle with Sony – perhaps worsened by Hotz’s public release of his jail breaking methods. In a stated retaliation to Sony’s gap of the unstated rules of jail breaking – never prosecute – the hacker group Anonymous attacked Sony in what would be the dubbed as the most costly security break of all time to date.

Hackers broke into the PlayStation Network and stole personal information of some 77 million users. However, Hotz denied any responsibility for the attack, and added “Running homebrew and exploring security on your devices is cool; hacking into someone else’s server and stealing databases of user info. is not cool.”

2.Jonathan James(a.k.a. c0mrade)

Jonathan James, 16-year-old black hat hacker, became the first juvenile imprisoned for cybercrime in the United States. James gained his notoriety by implementing a series of successful intrusions into various systems. At an amazingly young age of 15, James specialized in hacking high-profile government systems such as NASA and the Department of Defense. He was reported to have stolen software worth over $1.7 million. He also hacked into the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and intercepted over 3,000 highly secretive messages passing to and from the DTRA employees, while collecting many usernames and passwords.

On May 18, 2008, at the age of 25, James committed suicide using a gun. The words in his suicide note provide some insight into this obviously brilliant but troubled youth who thought he would be a scapegoat and blamed for cyber crimes he did not commit: “I have no faith in the ‘justice’ system. Perhaps my actions today, and this letter, will send a stronger message to the public. Either way, I have lost control over this situation, and this is my only way to regain control.”

1.Gary McKinnon

In 2002, an exceptionally odd message appeared on a US Army computer screen: “Your security system is crap,” it read. “I am Solo. I will continue to disrupt at the highest levels.” It was later identified as the work of Scottish systems administrator, Gary McKinnon.

McKinnon suffers from Asperger’s syndrome, which is the least severe form of autism. The symptoms of Asperger’s syndrome certainly match Gary’s actions: that is, highly intelligent with an exceptional understanding of complex systems. Though sufferers often have difficulty reading social cues and acknowledging the impact of their often-obsessive behavior, they tend to be geniuses in one particular subject. For Gary, it was computers.

Gary has been accused of executing the largest ever hack of United States government computer networks — including Army, Air Force, Navy and NASA systems. The court had recommended that McKinnon be apprehended to the United States to face charges of illegally accessing 97 computers, causing a total of $700,000 in damage. Even more interesting are McKinnon’s motives for the large scale hackings, which he claims were in search of information on UFOs. He believed the US government was hiding such information in its military computers.

0+.Kevin Mitnick

Kevin David Mitnick (born on August 6, 1963) is an American computer security consultant, author, and hacker. In the late 20th century, he was convicted of various computer- and communications-related crimes. At the time of his arrest, he was the most-wanted computer criminal in the United States. Mitnick gained unauthorized access to his first computer network in 1979, at 16, when a friend gave him the phone number for the Ark, the computer system Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) used for developing their RSTS/E operating system software. He broke into DEC’s computer network and copied their software, a crime he was charged with and convicted of in 1988.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Mitnick gained unauthorized access to dozens of computer networks while he was a fugitive. He used cloned cellular phones to hide his location and, among other things, copied valuable proprietary software from some of the country’s largest cellular telephone and computer companies. Mitnick also intercepted and stole computer passwords, altered computer networks, and broke into and read private e-mail.
Due to his fame he is included as a bonus entry here.

Google Spending $1 Billion On Satellites To Cover Earth In Wi-Fi – WSJ

Google is planning to spend at least $1 billion on a fleet of satellites, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. The goal of the project is to provide Internet access throughout the world.

The first step of the program will be to launch 180 high-capacity satellites. The report says that these small satellites will orbit the globe at a lower altitude than traditional devices.
Pending success of the initial efforts, Google may double the number of satellites later on. Costs could ultimately rise to $3 billion.

Google has been experimenting with helium balloons for internet access. A recent story from The Information also said that Google was exploring satellites as a way to deliver internet access, with evidence cited including Google’s recent hiring of Brian Holtz and Dave Bettinger, who come from companies that specialize in communication satellites.

Both Google and Facebook have been making efforts to get the world online. Less than half of the global population has Internet access, with participation lower in developing countries.

Top 10 Movies Related to HACKING.

Here is the list of the top 10 hacker movies which you must see if you haven’t seen already!

10. Demon Seed (1977)

an organic super-computer — is being fed the sum of all human knowledge, from Chinese to cancer research. Rather unfortunately, the super-computer reaches sentience, and hacks into its creator’s computer- automated house where it develops an unhealthy interest in the scientist’s wife. What happens next is entirely beyond simple hacking, but this movie teaches you to worry about a future where computers can think and act for themselves.

9. Existenz (1999)
David Cronenberg’s 1999 sci-fi flick takes a characteristically messy, organic approach to hacking. eXistenZ is set in a computer game where people connect to using biological computers. Cue the usual Croenebergian sprays of body fluid and squelchy bits plus some cool innovations, like a gun (made out of biological components) that shoots teeth.

8. The Net (1995)
In The Net, Sandra Bullock plays Angela Bennett, a software engineer who has her identity stolen after a holiday gone wrong. It doesn’t help that she works from home and doesn’t have many friends — a peril we’re sure many hackers can empathise with. She’s chased across cyberspace by an evil group called the Praetorians — there’s a classical reference for you — and has to use her computer to defend herself. Gutsy stuff.

7. Sneakers (1992)
Robert Redford’s Marty Bishop leads a group of computer whiz kids who specialise in cryptography and computer security. After stealing a mysterious black box from some mysterious bad guys — who say they’re government agents, so Bishop’s conscience can be clear — he finds out the box is able to decode any encryption system in the world. Predictably, the bad guys are keen to get their hands on it. Cue intrigue.

6. Swordfish (2001)
Convicted hacker Stanley Jobson — Hugh Jackman at his finest — has the task of stealing $9.5 billion of government funds forgotten about after the aborted Operation Swordfish, and he’s being egged along by the ultra-suave Gabriel Shear (John Travolta, clearly playing himself). We don’t need to say much about Swordfish, apart from the fact that there’s a scene involving hacking on a computer with seven screens. Seven screens. You can’t get much more hacker-tastic than that.

5. WarGames (1983)
Budding hacker David finds a backdoor entrance into a giant military supercomputer mainframe and starts messing around. Nothing could go wrong, right? David plays against the computer in a game involving an — entirely theoretical, or so it seems — nuclear war between America and Russia. WarGames celebrates hacking — we think it’s required reading for any computer security enthusiast.

4. Takedown (2000)
Kevin David Mitnick is at present working as an american computer security consultant. This movie is about his life and how a hacker turned down into country computer security counselor. Just to add more into the surprise, when Kevin was arrested for his cyber-crime, he was in the list of most wanted cyber criminal.

3. Hackers (1995)
11-year-old Dade Murphy, otherwise known by his hacker alias ‘Zero Cool’, is arrested by the US Secret Service for writing a computer virus and banned from using a computer until his 18th birthday. When he hits 18 he’s back in action as ‘Crash Override’, and all hell breaks loose — the movie features a brilliant ten-minute sequence that spawned the unforgettable phrase “hack the Gibson”. Hackers, as the name suggests, is one of the best hacking movies out there. If you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out.

2. Tron(1982)
Years before the tepid Tron: Legacy, the original Tron was actually cool precisely because of its unintendedly naive originality. Times were better before Jeff Bridges played the biogital Dude whose son is thrown into a video game to fight for his life. Lightcycles, spinning discs and neon-lit worlds (shot on 70mm film) made this the iconic sci-fi classic it still is today.

1. The Matrix (1999)
The Matrix is a meta-hacking movie. The hackers, including Keanu Reeves’ Neo, live inside the world they’re hacking. The Matrix is a computer system that tricks humans into thinking they’re alive and well and enjoying their lives when they’re actually being fed on by machines in a dark, dystopian real world. With its punchy nu-metal-cum-heavy-metal soundtrack and leather-heavy costume department, The Matrix shows hackers as they’d love to be seen — ultra-cool and revolutionary.

0.Die Hard (2007)
When someone hacks into the computers at the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division; the Director decides to round up all the hackers who could have done this. When he’s told that because it’s the 4th of July most of their agents are not around so they might have trouble getting people to get the hackers. So he instructs them to get local PD’S to take care of it. And one of the cops they ask is John McClane who is tasked with bringing a hacker named Farrell to the FBI. But as soon as he gets there someone starts shooting at them. McClane manages to get them out but they’re still being pursued. And it’s just when McClane arrives in Washington that the whole system breaks down and chaos ensues.

Zuckerberg calls Apple 'ridiculous'

Zuckerberg calls Apple's stance on ads 'ridiculous'

Zuckerberg calls Apple 'ridiculous' @ Hackersfall

CEO Mark Zukerberg and it’s Co-founder of Facebook apparently disagrees with Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding free games and apps that are ad supported which turn people into products by displaying them targeted ads to generate Maximum revenue.

Zukerberg said that “Apple’s products don’t care about its customers because if they’re expensive and if they cared about their customers those products would be a lot cheaper”. He also said that this type of online advertising to sell Apple products are ridiculous.”

“A frustration I have is that a lot of people increasingly seem to equate an advertising business model with somehow being out of alignment with your customers”.

He also said to the customers and end users, “it’s the most ridiculous concept. What you think because you pay Apple you’re somehow in alignment with them? If you were in alignment then they’d make their products much cheaper!’.

This was apparently in retaliation to an open letter posted by Apple on it’s privacy page in which Tim Cook said, “when an online service is free, you’re not the customer. You’re the product.”

Need For Speed Most Wanted Trainers Trainer & Teleporter by Dizzler (for NFSMW 1.3 - Multilanguage Support)

Trainers are small programs made to run in background while the game is active. They usually modify memory addresses and values used by game, to allow cheating during game-play. These activities might sometimes be tracked by antivirus software causing alerts. In this case, trainer might be detected as Malware and automatically deleted or modified by an antivirus. Due to this problem, it is recommended to disable antivirus protection while playing because we scan all our files before uploading.
